The Morris Minor Owners Club (MMOC) was founded in 1976 by enthusiast Tom Newton and five others at the Queensway Public House in Scunthorpe. This was only six years after Morris Minor production ceased.
In the 1980’s the MMOC acquired and paid outright for premises on an industrial estate in the centre of Derby where the National Club is to day.
From then until 2003 there was no local branch until Mike Greenwood formed the North Lincs Morris Minor Owners Club with the first meeting held at the Ironstone Wharf Public House in July 2003 with 6 people attending. By the following March with 15 members the NLMMOC moved to the Railway Inn at Barnetby. This was short lived with the club moving to the Shires in Kirton in Lindsey in October 2004.
While the club was at the Shires we organised our first rally at the Standtoft Trolley Bus Museum on the 10th April 2005, with 35 cars attending. The club was forced to find new premises when the Shires closed in 2009. We temporally moved to the Gander in Burringham which closed as well in 2010. So it was in July 2010 that the club finally moved to its present home, The Berekley Hotel in Scunthorpe.
Every year since 2005 the club has held a rally:-
· 2005 to 2009 Standtoft Trolley Bus Museum
· 2009 to 2012 Pink Pig Farm at Bottesford
· 2012 to 2015 Waters Edge Visitor Centre
We have had one rally where over 107 cars with their
enthusiastic owners shared their passion with the public
at the Waters Edge Visitor Centre. Since 2014 we have
held a second rally in Scunthorpe Church Square with
an average of over 60 cars. The NLMMOC also collects
for a charity by holding a tombola or raffle at our rally’s.
This has allowed us to support the following charities:-
Lupus, Royal Poppy Appeal, Renal Unit, Macmillan, Air Ambulance, Help the Heroes, Armed Forces Day, Prostrate Cancer, Stroke Association; and finally Jerry Greens Dogs Home for which we have collected £300 in 2015.
If you are passionate about the Morris Minor or any other Classic car we may be in a position to answer your queries or guidance with repairs / restoration.
Please come along and give us a try.
Our members range from 18 yrs to those in their seventies.
All are welcome.
